Hey Gang! ChopsAngeles here with another hair product review. This week I’m trying TRESemme Repair & Protect 7: Instant Recovery Mask For Damaged Hair. It is available at CVS, Walgreens, and Target for $3.99 or less. It is also available on Amazon, however, on that platform it comes in bottle form for multiple uses, instead of a small sample, though if your beard is smaller, you may get several uses out of it.
The “7” is not explained on the label of the sample packet. However, according to Amazon’s description, it means “Repairs 7 types of damage in 1 use”, but does not describe what the 7 types of damage are. I assume a couple of them are dryness, and brittleness, since every other deep conditioner says that in their description.
Even though this product does not claim to “heal split ends”, most products do make that claim. I’m going to state again, this absolutely cannot be true. Once the hair frays or splits, it does not come back together no mater what product you use.
However, the packet does state at the top “Results in 1 use”. So, let’s see how true it is that it will at least take care of the dryness of the older parts of the hair within one use.
Step 1: wash beard thoroughly removing any beard oil/conditioner build up, etc. Pat the beard to dry it a little, but leave damp. Do not blow dry.
Step 2: put on a shirt you don’t mind getting conditioner all over, or wrap a towel around your neck and shoulders like a barber’s smock. It’s going to be a little messy. Obviously, if you are in the shower, you do not need this step.
Step 3: open product and put a good amount of conditioner in your palm and rub both hands together.
Step 4: Start by applying it to the ends and tips of your beard first since this is the oldest and driest part of your facial hair. Then work your way up to the beard hair roots. DO NOT RUB INTO YOUR SKIN. Doing that may cause pore clogging and a skin breakout. Then, take a comb or wet-brush and run it through your facial hair lightly to ensure all strands of hair are covered. (As I’ve mentioned before, I like to “style” my ‘stache out of the way so that I can use a straw to drink something while the treatment processes.)
Like most deep conditioners, it is a bit fragrant. Honestly, it smells like SweeTARTS candy LOL Though the aroma is heavy, you are only “soaking” your facial hair for 3-4 minutes.
Step 5: Rinse thoroughly!
This one washed out fairly quickly, and did leave my beard feeling nice and soft. Even the ends that are a bit more dry than the rest. Also, it seemed to bring out the natural curls and waves of my beard, which products rarely do, even the ones that claim to have the “curl effect” on hair.
Overall, I’d say it works really well if you are looking to saturate any crispy or damaged hair. I’m writing this piece two days after I used it, and the ends of my beard are still soft. Also, the waviness of my beard is still a little visible, even after a wash.
So I’d give this deep condition a 4.5 out of 5 whiskers, and would recommend it if in need of facial hair revitalization.
Of course, afterwards, coat your facial hair using your daily oiling regimen to continue protecting it from the elements. I prefer to use Pulpo Beard Oils because they are thick, and will help keep your facial hair saturated to avoid breakage. Plus, Pulpo has unique scents that are different from other companies. My favorite is “Red Alert”! The oil is dense and has a hint of cherry tobacco-like scent. Click the pic below to see a full line of facial hair products!
